RedeAmericas meeting in Rio
The RedeAmericas (RA), a NIMH-funded regional hub, held its annual meeting at the Institute of Psychiatry in Rio de Janeiro this week. The agenda focused on the CTI-Task Shifting (CTI-TS) randomized pilot study. RA leaders from the University of Chile, Columbia University and Sarah Conover, director of CTI Global Network, met with the Brazilian RA leaders and study team members. This adaptation of CTI will help people with psychotic illness who live in marginalized urban neighborhoods in Latin America engage with community mental health centers for the first time. Discussions about recruitment barriers and strategies revealed the complex and dynamic nature of the communities in Santiago and Rio where the intervention is being conducted. The peer CTI-TS workers expressed enthusiasm for the possibilities of this kind of community-based, recovery-oriented work.
